Why it makes sense to wait for iOS 8.4 to release a jailbreak

Apple released iOS 8.1.3 on January 27, 2015, which fixed a number of vulnerabilities that killed the TaiG jailbreak.

So it has been a very long time since a jailbreak for iPhone, iPad or iPod touch has been released.

iOS 8.4 jailbreak may be wishful thinking, but the fact that Stefan Essar aka i0n1c showed off a jailbroken iPhone 6 Plus running on iOS 8.4, we know that it is possible.

But since Apple has seeded iOS 8.4 beta to developers almost a month back, with the public release expected later this month or next month, I think it makes sense that the jailbreak (assuming there is one) is released only after Apple releases iOS 8.4 to the public.

With Apple widely expected to unveil iOS 9 at the WWDC, and follow it up by releasing it to developers, it does look like iOS 8.4 will be the final version for iOS 8. In case of iOS 7 last year, iOS 7.1.2 was the final release, so Apple has already released a lot more software updates for iOS 8. It also seems unlikely that Apple will waste any more resources on iOS 8, as Apple Engineers will be busy fixing the bugs in iOS 9 to be able to get ready for the release in September along with the launch of iPhone 6s/iPhone 7 or whatever Apple ends up calling it.

If iOS 8.3 jailbreak is released then Apple will have the opportunity to patch the vulnerabilities in iOS 8.4. An iOS 8.4 jailbreak will ensure that users will be able to enjoy their jailbroken device at least until September, after which time they can decide if they want to upgrade to iOS 9.

There has been no updates from the TaiG team after dismissing the iOS 8.2 jailbreak rumor, and saying that they are working on a jailbreak. Let’s hope that the iOS 8.4 jailbreak is not wishful thinking, and that they are just waiting patiently for iOS 8.4 to be released before releasing the jailbreak.

In the meantime, you should resist the temptation of upgrading your iOS device to iOS 8.4 when it is released, until there is more clarity about the jailbreak. It is quite possible (let’s hope not) that Apple will patch the vulnerability in iOS 8.4 public release, and jailbreak is released only for iOS 8.3 or lower.

Please also note that any site claiming to have a jailbreak for iOS 8.1.3 – iOS 8.4 is a scam, so stay clear from such scam sites. If there is a jailbreak for iOS 8.1.3 – iOS 8.4, it will be available for free, and we’ll be let you know as soon as possible. Check our iOS 8.3 jailbreak page for the latest updates.

What do you think? Should a jailbreak be released as soon as it is ready for the public? Or should the hackers wait for iOS 8.4 to be released to the public before releasing the jailbreak? Let me know what you think in the comments below.
